I am a first generation immigrant to the US

First one in my family to immigrate to the United States. As a first generation immigrant, I understand the pain of separation and the need to make sense of a new country at a personal level.

I am an English Language Learner

English is not my mother tongue. I know first hand the challenges associated with learning English as a Foreign and Second Language. It has taken me many years to achieve high levels of English Language Proficiency.
I am a Bilingual Teacher

I was recruited to come to the US as a Bilingual Teacher 31 years ago. I have taught in Bilingual Education Programs from K-8 grade and worked with teachers of Bilingual Learners in 9-12. I have consulted with districts around the country working with the implementation of Bilingual/Dual Language Education.

I am a Bilingual Professor and Director of Master of Bilingual Education

I have designed and authored courses for the preparation of teachers in graduate and undergraduate education. I have developed and conceptualized programs from the ground up and I have led the implementation of statewide clinical practice for interns and student teachers for Multiple Subject. Recently, I have designed a new Master of Bilingual Education with Preliminary Multiple and Single Subject Credential with Bilingual Authorization (SP/ENG) for TK12 schools in California.

I am a Fulbright Specialist and Scholar

I am an author, a researcher and a scholar. I am always asking questions and engage in research projects that help me respond to the original areas of inquiry. I love to learn and share with others.
